Feeling Creatively Stuck?

Is there a project you keep circling but never start? A manuscript, a canvas, a business idea that sits untouched while the guilt grows? Do you have no shortage of ideas, but something stops you every time you sit down to begin? Or maybe you finish things and then can't bring yourself to share them.

Creative blocks are among the most frustrating experiences there are, partly because the advice we're given about them is so thin: just start, set a timer, wait for inspiration. If that worked, you'd have done it by now. Being creatively stuck is rarely about discipline. It's about what the work has come to mean.

What Is Creativity Coaching?

Creativity coaching is dedicated, one-on-one support for your creative life. It's for writers, artists, musicians, and makers of every kind, and just as much for the person who doesn't call themselves creative yet but feels the pull of something unmade. Together we look at what you want to create, what's getting in the way, and how to build a sustainable creative practice that survives contact with real life.

Because this is coaching rather than psychotherapy, it's open to anyone, anywhere. No state licensing boundaries apply.

A Deeper Approach to Creative Blocks

Most creativity coaching stays on the surface: productivity systems, accountability, tips. Those have their place, but blocks usually live deeper. The blank page stirs up perfectionism. The inner critic gets loudest exactly when the work matters most. Sharing what you've made means being seen, and being seen can feel dangerous in ways that trace back long before this project.

As a psychoanalytic psychologist, I bring clinical depth to this work that most creativity coaches can't. We won't just manage the block. We'll understand it: what it's protecting you from, where it learned its job, and what becomes possible when it no longer has to do it. Creative blocks, it turns out, are rarely about creativity.

When I completed The Artist's Way in 2022, I reconnected with a desire to write, a forgotten dream that had been pushed aside. Working with creative coaches helped me rediscover play and pursue my dreams, while not getting sidetracked by the inner critic.

As Julia Cameron reminds us, we are all creative. Creativity is our birthright, but somewhere along the way, we forget this, especially if we aren't full-time artists. Coaching can help you reignite your creativity and learn how to play again. Together we will identify what's getting in the way and create a strategy around it.

A Creative Ecosystem

Coaching pairs naturally with Silent Studio, my writing community, where creative practice happens in the company of others. Some people start with the group and add coaching when they want to go deeper; others begin one-on-one and join the studio for momentum and connection.

Silent Studio is a no-pressure, low-intensity creative space. With three sessions a week, you have an hour to craft, write, sketch, or spend time on any creative passion. This is a neurodivergent and highly sensitive friendly environment with no forced interaction and the permission to leave your camera on or off. The goal of Silent Studio is to build a consistent creative practice where you show up, work silently among others, and develop the muscle of taking your creativity seriously.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between creativity coaching and therapy?

Therapy treats mental health concerns and involves diagnosis and clinical treatment, which is why it's limited to the states where I'm licensed. Coaching is forward-focused support for your creative goals and practice, and it's available to anyone, anywhere. The line between them is real, and one of the advantages of working with a licensed psychologist as your coach is that I know where that line is, and I'll tell you if what you're facing needs therapy instead.

Do I need to be a professional artist or writer?

Not at all. Coaching is for anyone with a creative practice or a creative longing: the person writing their first book, returning to painting after twenty years, or building something new. The desire to make things is the only prerequisite.

How do I get unstuck creatively?

The honest answer is that it depends on what the stuckness is made of, and that's exactly what we figure out together. Sometimes it's structural (no protected time, no workable routine), and sometimes it's deeper (perfectionism, fear of judgment, a harsh inner critic). Most often it's both, which is why we work on the practice and what's underneath it at the same time.

How does coaching work if I'm not in Arizona?

Sessions are virtual, and because coaching isn't bound by state licensing, location doesn't matter. Wherever you are, we can work together.
